I am part of a wonderful blog chain that was started out of an equally wonderful group ChristianWriters.com. I am glad to be a part of it. Unfortunately, I had to take down my old blog and have just now gotten things up and going on this new blog. I still don’t have everything set and it is still very much in the early stages. However, I didn’t want to disappoint.
I am not close to being a published writer unlike some of my fellow bloggers on this chain, I have had digital publications pick a thing or two up. Still, writing is something I love deeply but has not always been a focus of mine. It was more of something I felt I had to keep hidden because corporate America or at one time mentors, who thought it would not pay the bills. So, when I think of what my discomfort zone is when writing, it would be writing itself.
I am a trained and experienced Corporate Accountant. The ones everyone blames for the downfall of the economy. However, the companies I worked for never had enough money to matter to the economy at large. Where I come from, professionally speaking, you do not express your ideas where others can readily see them. You are to express the companies beliefs and attitudes at all times. You are to be a “company man”. You can see where it would be uncomfortable to start writing a blog.
Once I began to listen to the purpose and the call God had for my life, I started letting go of what others would have for me. I began to be more comfortable in expressing my ideas. God allowed me to leave the Discomfort Zone and enter into a zone of what can only be described as peace. While at times I do not feel as worthy as some at the craft of writing, I know that where it comes from is a calling, something I cannot hold onto anymore. I still live in the Discomfort Zone much of the time when I am writing but God willing I will make it through. The way I see it, what I have to say might not be for you but since it was given to me from my Father, it is for someone.
God Bless
Hey Chris! You made it! Yay! (signed the Exclamation Point Queen)
I think you are right in that not every one will agree with what you have to say. I remember when I wrote an article for my website that someone shot down to pieces. My response? Take it up with The Boss – He told me to write it.
May God bless your endeavors – I look forward to reading some of your stuff!

Hi, Chris! Welcome to the blog chain. I like your blog design and your post for the DZ blog tour. Writing is scary for all of us, even those of us who have made or currently make our living at it. It’s frightening to deliberately make yourself vulnerable like that, but if we want to heed God’s calling, we press on with it.
Thanks for sharing your journey with us! I look forward to reading more from you.
Unfortunately, from what I’ve observed, Corporate America is important for maintaining the nation’s economy, but it is not known for encouraging creative pursuits, such as writing. I am so glad you’re breaking the mold, Chris. Thanks.

Good for you, Chris! Leave the corporate shackles for a few moments every day and allow your more creative side to express itself. It’s good for the soul.
Terrific post!
Yes, for many of us any writing puts us in the discomfort zone. I’m glad you’ve now found peace!

Glad you got your blog up and running in time for the chain. Layout looks good – attractive but simple. I think people who are in careers that require a very logical analytical way of thinking need a good creative outlet when they get home, and writing is a great option. Most of us in my workplace (a bunch of computer programmers) have creative outlets of one type or another.
Hey Chris,
Another Corporate America Chris here. I’m a programmer like Adam by day, and I write for my kids at night and in the mornings, on weekends, and when I can find the time.
Don’t be discouraged, write what the Lord puts on your heart to write, whether it be an adventure story, a romance, a historical fiction, or a non-fiction. God’s calling us to serve him with our pens…
For me, that means writing cool adventure stories for my kids with some Christian truth embedded.
Thanks for joining the chain. God bless in your writing adventures.
